Step 1- The first step is to acquire the materials you will need to clean your hearing aid. The three most important things are a wax pick, brush, and blower. You can purchase these from your audiologist or any hearing aid supplier. It is important to note that you may have received these when you purchase your hearing aid.
Step 2- Remove the hearing aid from your ear before cleaning it. You will not be able to clean the hearing aid if it is in your ear, so make sure you remove it before cleaning.
Step 3- To begin cleaning you need to examine the earmold for any wax that may have accumulated. If there is wax you will need to remove it with the wax pick. The earmold may need further cleaning, so remove it from the ear hook. You will need to place the earmold into soapy water and allow it to sit for a few minutes before rinsing it with clean water. Place the blower and the end of the tube and squeeze, blowing all the water out of the tube. Allow it to dry overnight before reconnecting it to the hearing aid.
Step 4- Now, you need to clean the outside of the hearing aid. The best way to clean the outside of the hearing aid is to rub it with a soft cloth. Gently rub the outside in a circle motion to thoroughly remove any wax.
Step 5- Remove the battery from the hearing aid and clean its compartment. Use the brush and gently swipe away any buildup in the compartment. Make sure you remove everything from the compartment before returning the battery to it.
Step 6- To finish cleaning the hearing aid you need to return the battery to the compartment, close the casing, and begin using the hearing aid like you normally would.
